Hello there!
I’m Moth (they/them), a Latinx costume designer/costumer/wardrobe tech, artist, and researcher located in Portland, Oregon. Originally from Arizona, I graduated from Portland State University in 2023 with a BA in Sociology and Classical Studies.
My work with costumes is deeply informed by my background in intersectional sociology and interest in fashion history. Clothing serves as a powerful tool to communicate both one’s personal history and their position in society, and I enjoy collaborating with directors & performers alike to design costumes that intimately reflect a character’s world. I design with a sense of playfulness and radical queerness, and while working with people’s bodies I strive to cultivate a liberatory dynamic of body positivity.
Outside of costuming I like to crochet, read, go thrifting, and watch insanely long video essays. I hand-make earrings and other accessories using upcycled/secondhand materials which you may find me selling at a market or two around the city. In 2024 I co-authored a paper with Dr. Lisa Weasel (PSU School of Earth, Environment & Society) on the sociology of entomophobia, the transformative possibilities of science education, and socio-cultural affect studies, pending publication.
